Tarragona (IPA: [tərəˈɣonə] in Catalan) is a city located in the south of Catalonia and east of Spain, by the Mediterranean Sea. It is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name and the capital of the Catalan comarca Tarragonès. As of the 2005 census, the city had a population of 144,163, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 450,921.
